“The work we do is hard – emotionally, mentally, and physically. That truth will always remain. But what we can change is how we approach it: by training our minds to sustain ore rediscover our joy in both our personal and professional lives.”

As a trauma surgeon, I live the reality that so many physicians know all too well — long hours, sleepless nights, life-or-death decisions made in minutes, often with incomplete information and lasting consequences. The work is intense, unrelenting, and deeply meaningful. But it’s also a perfect storm for burnout. I check every risk factor: high-stakes responsibility, chronic sleep deprivation, emotional overload, and little room to process any of it. I know what it’s like to keep pushing forward while feeling disconnected from the passion that once drove me. And I also know that it doesn’t have to stay that way. My mission is to help physicians and others in high stress professions reconnect with what brought them into this work in the first place — and to equip them with the tools to not only survive, but to thrive. Coaching isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about rediscovering what’s already within us: strength, insight, and the capacity to keep doing what we love — without losing ourselves in the process.

We can change the structure of the way we work by altering the hours we put into a task, by using checklists, and by creating the space we need for work. These are necessary but not sufficient for true happiness. To be truly happy, we have to work on the mindset that with which we approach the hard things that we have to do in our work and in our lives.”

With a clinical expertise spanning trauma, emergency surgery and surgical critical care, I have spent my career as a dedicated surgeon scientist and leader, specializing in the challenging and dynamic field of acute care surgery.  At the heart of my practice, however, is a relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation.  I aim to push the boundaries of medical science for the betterment of all and to help to relieve human suffering from those who have acute surgical illnesses.

The work many of us do is hard. It is physically and psychologically challenging . To face these challenges and to grow stronger during times of adversity, we need a framework to guide our thoughts and actions. My inspiration arises from Stoic philosophy. This ancient wisdom has been guiding my journey in life since I first discovered the concepts in college. I believe that the principles of Stoicism— the importance of virtue, control over one’s reactions, and focusing on the present—can significantly enrich one’s approach to research, leadership, and life itself. My goal is to weave these insights into the fabric of my coaching and consulting work and share them with others. In doing so, I hope to help people do hard things and to not lose themselves, and important human connection, in the process.
